Business manager to healthcare assistant
3-year work visa approved (Part 2)
In my previous blog, I talked about my two clients who went from student to work visa after completing their Healthcare qualification.
I made a promise to you that in this email, I will be sharing about Client 2 - who received her 3 years of Employer Accredited Work Visa.
A little bit of a background on my client 2. She is a Sri Lankan, she is a mother, she moved to New Zealand on a student visa pathway.
In Sri Lanka, she was a successful corporate professional. She was a manager of a reputed international brand. She had a team of professionals under her. She has a big house, servants assisting her, she has a driver who would pick her and drop her off to work. She was earning 6-figure salary in Sri Lanka. One can say she was living her dream.
Everything was going gloriously; her children were enrolled in Sri Lanka's top international school. One day, suddenly her mother got really sick. Overnight her life changed, she had to quit her job to look after her mother full-time something she had never done in her life. From being an independent working woman - she turned into a healthcare assistant for her mother.
Her family supported her in taking care of the familial needs. This came as a big shock to her confidence. As she worked through her mother's illness - doctors, nurses, pharmacists started to become her new team members. She didn't have a background in healthcare, but with every passing day, she was learning, practicing and reflecting on the healthcare industry.
This continued for a very long time, with her patience and dedication towards her mother, her mother (thanks to God) was able to make it alive and healthy again. In the process her mother lost the ability to walk and was fully dependent on a wheelchair.
It was almost after 5 years of struggle, my client sat down to focus on what's next for her? What does this mean for her career? She had been out of the workforce for too long.
She reached out to me, and we planned a career change for her. Her recent and deep experience in healthcare positioned her for a suitable entry course, her background in management gave her the competitive edge. We carefully crafted her story and worked through the requirements of her student visa. She secured her student visa.
She was determined to move to New Zealand all by herself. She left her family in Sri Lanka and wanted to give her children and mother a good life. She was not just learning within classroom, she was networking, applying for jobs, learning outside classroom.
Her management skills, ability to manage people, being an empathetic and kind person led her to secure her AEWV visa for the next 3 years in the country.
Today my client is working as a healthcare professional, managing teams within her organization, setting expectations and modernizing kiwi-healthcare systems.
My very first client. I am still in touch with her. We talk regularly and plan for what's next for her family?
Thank you once again for interacting with my newsletter. On the special occasion of Matariki marking the Māori New Year, cheers to new beginnings. 🥂
